What do we get up to...

There are a wide range of activities we run for teenagers in the church and those in the community.  If you're looking to get involved we hope you find something that's right for you.

We also run a number of stand alone events throughout the year (our annual revision sessions, prayer spaces in schools, youth mission to Romania and weekends away).  More information about all these things will appear on the site as they approach.

Here's a list of everything we do on a regular basis:

Teenscene…

A group for S1 and S2 pupils where we get into the Bible, figure out what life looks likes as a Christian and build relationships with each other and God. We meet every Sunday during term time from around 10:15-11:00. We meet in the Lighthouse. Everyone’s welcome.

Once every three months we hang out at someone’s house on a purely social basis. This is a great chance to get to know one another better and might be the place to start if you’ve not jumped into Sunday mornings yet.

Nitelife…

A group for S3-S6 pupils where, just like in Teenscene, we engage with the Bible, get to grips with faith and what it means in real life and listen to what God has to say to us. We meet every Sunday evening at Jonathan’s house, from 19:30-21:00Feel free to join us any time.

On the last Sunday of every month we meet in the Lighthouse to eat and relax, building stronger relationships with each other. If showing up on a Sunday seems like quite a leap, come along to one of these socials first.

Mentoring…

Not for the faint-hearted. Mentoring is at the heart of what we do. In a group of no more than three you’ll link up with an older and wiser member of the church. You’ll meet with this ‘mentor’ once a month, you’ll eat together, read the Bible together and pray together. This is a big commitment but, through it, we’ve seen lots of young people grow in their faith. You do have to sign up to say that you’ll stick with the programme through thick and thin.

Get in touch if you’re interested and we’ll start the process.

Monday Night Drop-In…

Each Monday night after the clocks go back until they go forward again in the spring we open the church hall to every secondary age young person from 19:00-21:00. In conjunction with Highlife Highland we provide a safe place for young people to hang out, play pool, badminton, x-box and the like and to chat about whatever’s going on in their lives. There’s no strings attached and anyone can join us.

Friday Night Football…

Every Friday night, out with the summer holidays, a team of guys from Hilton Church and Greyfriars Free Church staff the hall at Hilton Community Centre from 20:30-21:45 so as teenagers in Hilton can play some football. As with everything we do, anyone and everyone is welcome.

Primary Schools work…

We’re involved in both our local primary schools – Hilton and Cauldeen. We support the Adventurers group in Hilton Primary and run the Scripture Union group in Cauldeen.

We take assemblies in both schools on a weekly basis, are involved in the Religious Education elements of the curriculum and have been involved in the transition from P7 into the Royal Academy. We also beginning to explore what creative prayer might look like with 5-12 year olds.

High School work…

We’re involved in Inverness Royal Academy, leading assemblies and delivering Religious Education.

On top of that, we host a drop-in every Thursday lunchtime in hut 62 where you can grab a free hot chocolate, play some pool, x-box of table football, or just relax over the lunch hour.

Every year in May, we take over a classroom in the Academy and turn it into a Prayer Room where young people can express themselves in creative ways, getting more in touch with themselves and, we hope, with God. This has proved more popular than we could ever have imagined.

Prayer…

Everything we do is backed-up by prayer, because if God isn’t involved in what we do we don’t see much point in carrying on. We’ll post monthly prayer points on the blog so you can join in praying with us and for us.
